Online Dating is a space where men and women can be whomever they want to be and or be themselves. There are numerous articles on the dangers of online dating, but for the most part, using online dating to find a mate becomes easy once understanding the silent communications of profile images and what is written in a profile. Being selective becomes key in picking a profile that matches one's personality traits. Learning how to decipher true gems from a profile that is misleading sometimes depends on the first visual a man sees; the profile pic.
Men are visual. They have images in their heads that allows them to categorize where a woman fits in their life. The first profile picture a man sees of a woman at a online dating website helps determine subconsciously whether the woman in a photo is wife material or play material. Men discern categorizing a woman in part due to media communication and advertising that defines characteristics of women through the images of how a model or actor is dressed, the makeup being worn, hairstyle and body language. In turn, women simulate these images and even tactics women in media portray into their own lives. The stereotyping of women is programmed into a man's brain, so women must be conscious of the messages being sent to men or the messages men receive through mass media and other mediums. This includes messages through television programs and movies.
A combination of a sexy, yet conservative profile image helps weed out men who want to play. Thinking that players exist at online dating services is an understatement, but any man can be categorized as a player if a woman's profile pic alone suggests a stereotype of a woman not to be taken seriously. Stay away from taking pictures that are provocative. Take pictures that show assets at a minimum and that are also clear with a fun smile as opposed to enticing. If a woman wants to be taken seriously, she must look like a woman that a man would quickly want to meet his family, friends and mother as someone who he can confide and call special. Something men are not good at is rewinding an event. The last place a woman looking for love and a serious relationship wants to be put in a man's mind as being a special express; a quick hot date as opposed to exclusively special.
